Here are Inside Bainbridge recommendations for the weekend of September 20-22, 2013:

1. Family Movie Matinee: Oz the Great and Powerful
When: Friday, 3:30-5:40 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave. N.
Why: Burnout Daniel from Freaks and Geeks as the Big Man of Oz.

2. Visconsi Development Discussion
When: Friday, 7-8:30 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Island Senior Center, 370 Brien Dr SE.
Why: Speak your mind. Read more here.

3. Ovation! Auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar
When: Saturday, 11a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: BHS Theatre
Why: One of the hardest musicals to sing on key ever written. Figures, it’s about the really big man (forget Oz—see above). Think you’ve got what it takes? All parts are open. To review audition requirements, visit www.ovationmtb.com or see Ovation!’s events page on Facebook. To schedule an audition, e-mail info@ovationmtb.com (preferred) or call 206-842-0472.

4. Radical Home Ec: Green Cleaners
When: Satuday, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave.
Why: Learn how to use the stuff in your kitchen to clean it. Save money and stop poisoning the place where you live.

5. In Service at Downtown Abbey
When: Saturday, 1 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave.
Why: Tames Allen of Living History Lectures will bring to life the downstairs denizens of Downtown Abbey (that’s DOWN-tun, please). Sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Genealogical Society.

The following faintly related BBC production is exclusively for your enjoyment. (It’s all pretty good except for the unfunny portrayal of Thomas—odd given Simon Callow’s participation.)

6. Library Adults-Only Spelling Bee
When: Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
Where: Grace Episcopal Church, 8595 NE Day Road.

Why: The emcee is none other than Island Treasure and good speller George Shannon. Judges include all the people you’re afraid of: Municipal Judge Kate Carruthers, School Superintendent Faith Chapel, and Library Manager Rebecca Judd. Tickets include dessert and wine, which is guaranteed to make you spell better. No children allowed so you’ll have a better chance at succeeding. Read more here.

Entry for each three-person team is $150. The money supports the Library. Additional information may be found at BainbridgePublicLibrary.org under the What’s Happening tab. Tickets available on-line and at Winslow Drug.

7. Anja Claire and Sweet Root with Andrew Lovejoy and Katherine Rose Lewis
When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Island Music Guild, 10598 NE Valley Rd
Why: Celebrate Autumnal Equinox and International day of Peace with angelic Anja Claire, her bass, her guitar, and Sweet Root. Andrew Lovejoy opens, preceded by an opening reception (at 6) for artist Katherine Ross Lewis. Refreshments, wine and beer and coffee available for purchase.

Tickets are $11.14, including service fee, in advance through brownpapertickets.com and $12 at the door.

8. Ray Wylie Hubbard at Treehouse
When: Saturday, 8 p.m.
Where: Treehouse Cafe, 4569 Lynwood Center Road
Why: Hubbard is a tough old guy from Oklahoma. He’s the real deal, a rare listen this far north.

Tickets are $25-$35.
